A wave slapped against the pier and pulled back,
Taking with it minute fibers of wood.
More waves slapped and pulled. Time passed.
The wood aged, changed, rotted through.

Meanwhile in the depths below,
In sea-life around the wood
A foundation was being built,
A foundation of life, in shells and coral...
Building, rebuilding, reinforcing.

Until, one day, when the wood disappeared,
Becoming a part of the waves themselves.
A tower stood in its place - a beautiful tower of life
Built upon life.
